BDI Accuses VLEN of Highlighting Language Law Violations
The Bureau of Language Implementation (BDI) today issued a statement accusing VLEN (the Agency for Language Implementation) of utilizing self-published documents to demonstrate government non-compliance with the Law on Languages. VLEN recently posted information regarding the publication of bilingual documents within the Official Gazette, framing it as a positive development. BDI contends this action constitutes evidence of the law’s lack of implementation by the institutions overseen by VLEN.
According to BDI, the Official Gazette operates under a legal mandate to publish announcements in both Albanian and the language of the announcement, as dictated by current legal orders. A VLEN deputy’s efforts to highlight this publication were characterized by BDI as promoting the implementation of a law currently facing ongoing legal challenges. Furthermore, the deputy’s comparison of VLEN’s actions to those of other institutions was interpreted as an admission that numerous organizations are failing to adhere to the legal obligation to utilize the Albanian language.
The BDI’s statement centered on the release of these documents, emphasizing VLEN’s role in showcasing the continued non-implementation of the law. The agency, VLEN, has not yet responded to the accusations.
