Unexpectedly: Michael Carrick has opened the door to Marcus Rashford’s return to Manchester United.

Carrick Remains Open to Rashford’s Return as United’s Future Remains Unclear

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has stated that the club has not yet reached a definitive decision regarding Marcus Rashford’s potential involvement for the upcoming season. This announcement leaves the possibility of Rashford’s return to Old Trafford open, following a period of limited playing time under previous management. Rashford’s reduced playing time during Ruben Amorim’s tenure was characterized by his exclusion from the first-team squad.

The forward subsequently spent the latter half of last season on loan with Aston Villa and is currently contracted to Barcelona for the 2023-2024 campaign. During his time with the La Liga side, Rashford has consistently featured and demonstrated his abilities. Barcelona holds the option to activate a buyout clause of €30 million, a deadline for which is set for June 15th.

Simultaneously, Rashford remains under contract with Manchester United for two further years. Carrick addressed the situation, stating that “There are decisions that need to be made for some matters.” He indicated that all options are being considered as United evaluates Rashford’s potential role within the squad. The manager’s comments suggest a continued willingness to explore Rashford’s future and reintegrate him into the team’s plans.
