Kosovo Acting President Haxhiu Urges Parties to Resolve Presidential Dispute
Kosovo’s acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, stated that the next several weeks are critical to achieving a political agreement on the election of a new president. She firmly dismissed the prospect of extraordinary elections, emphasizing the need for a negotiated solution. Haxhiu called for Kosovo’s political parties to increase their engagement and pursue collaborative approaches to resolve the impasse.
She believes the process could be expedited with sufficient political will. “This week is decisive,” Haxhiu declared. “I wish that it begins with meetings between political parties… if there is will, it can be done within a very short time.”
Prime Minister Albin Kurti is reportedly extending invitations to political parties for meetings, according to Haxhiu.
She indicated her willingness to initiate similar outreach if requested by the involved political entities. The ongoing dispute centers around the election of a president, a key element in Kosovo’s current political situation. Haxhiu’s comments highlight the urgency surrounding the matter and the desire to avoid further instability.
The acting president remains focused on facilitating a swift resolution, stressing the importance of a unified approach to ensure a stable government. Haxhiu reiterated the potential for a rapid outcome if parties demonstrate a commitment to dialogue and compromise.
