Investigations have revealed that nine individuals were arrested after a dispute escalated, leading to a blockade. They are suspected of causing damage to the state budget amounting to 1.9 million denars.

A 2023 Mercedes-Maybach, previously circulated and registered using falsified paperwork, has incurred 1.9 million denars in financial damage to the Macedonian budget, according to the customs authorities. The investigation uncovered that the importer and a customs representative deliberately manipulated the invoice and accompanying documents. This action was undertaken to reduce the taxes owed and to alter the vehicle’s registration plates and associated data.

With the support of numerous customs officers and police personnel, the vehicle was successfully released into circulation. The Public Prosecution has subsequently pressed criminal charges against two legal entities and seven individuals. These charges relate to offenses including document forgery, abuse of office, and fraudulent activity.

Customs initiated investigations beginning in November 2024, focusing on vehicle imports. To date, the customs branch has issued 51 indictments concerning 180 vehicles. These investigations have collectively revealed significant financial damage, with total losses exceeding 41 million denars.

The customs department continues its scrutiny of imported vehicles, aiming to prevent similar instances of fraud and financial harm.
