The Central Election Commission has taken action, suspending the New Kosovo Alliance party. News Gazeta Express reported this on March 12, 2026, at 13:49. At today’s meeting, the CEC formally approved a recommendation regarding the political party’s status.
Kreshnik Radoniqi, the head of the CEC, explained that the alliance is legally required to conduct its convention within a 45-day timeframe. This decision was rooted in Law No. 08/L-228 concerning General Elections.
This legislation stipulates that any registered political party must hold its electoral congress within six months of registration, followed by at least another 48-month interval. The New Kosovo Alliance, initially registered with the CEC in 2007, faced a deadline of February 25, 2026, to hold its subsequent electoral congress. Specifically, the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control issued notices on February 4th and 24th, 2026, highlighting the party’s continued non-compliance.
Consequently, the CEC implemented a suspension, enforcing the regulations outlined in the electoral law.
