During the seizure, 24 cigarette packs were taken: The IPK arrested one police officer and recommended the suspension of four others.

The Kosovo Police Inspectorate is currently conducting investigations involving five officers from the Rapid Response Unit of the Border Police. These actions are focused on allegations of misconduct stemming from an incident on March 13, 2026. Initial investigative findings and collected evidence suggest that the police officers may have committed the criminal offense of “Abuse of Power in Office” while carrying out their official duties.

The investigation centers around a specific event where the officers had previously confiscated over one hundred cigarette packages from individuals suspected of smuggling within the Republic of Kosovo. Suspicion has arisen that these officers subsequently appropriated approximately 24 cigarette packages. These packages, totaling around 12,500, were estimated to be worth approximately 30,000 euros.

It is believed the officers then delivered these confiscated goods directly to Kosovo Customs. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the extent of the officers’ involvement and gather further evidence to support the accusations. The police are diligently pursuing this matter, ensuring accountability for any wrongdoing that occurred during the operation.
