Independent Academic Union Expresses Disappointment Following Meeting with Education Ministry
The Independent Academic Union (SPA) held a meeting on Thursday, April 17th, with Education and Science Minister Vesna Janevska and representatives from the Ministry to discuss draft legislation concerning higher education, scientific research, and quality assurance. The meeting concluded without an agreement on the majority of SPA’s proposed changes to the draft laws. SPA representatives detailed their observations and arguments during the discussion.
While the Ministry acknowledged the input, they primarily focused on refining the definition of scientific bases within the field of languages and literature. “Despite the arguments and suggestions presented, SPA laments that most of our proposals for improving the text of the laws were not accepted,” the Union stated in a subsequent release. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration between the independent academic community and the Ministry of Education and Science.
The discussion centered around adjustments to the proposed legislation, reflecting concerns within the independent academic sector regarding the scope and implementation of the new regulations. Further negotiations between SPA and the Ministry are anticipated as the draft laws move forward.
