LSDM: The Mickoski Government Leaves Citizens Facing Only the Global Crisis

LSDM Criticizes Government Response to Rising Cost of Living

Skopje – The Liberal Democratic Party of Macedonia (LSDM) today leveled criticism at Prime Minister Hristjan Mickoski, alleging the government has failed to adequately support citizens facing escalating economic challenges. The party asserts that despite official claims of robust economic growth, many Macedonians are struggling with rising living costs. LSDM representatives highlighted the recent increase in the minimum wage, set by trade unions for April 2026, which reached nearly 69,000 denars.

Within a single month, the minimum wage rose by approximately 1,000 denars, and accumulated over 2,300 denars in increases since the onset of the global crisis in March. The party pointed to rising inflation, with the consumer price index continuing to climb despite the initial impact of the Middle East conflict. The government’s initial response, a reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel from 18% to 10% in March, is being described as insufficient.

“While Prime Minister Hristjan Mickoski boasts about the ‘third economy with the fastest growth in Europe’ and a 3 percent growth rate, citizens are grappling with the increasing cost of living,” stated an LSDM spokesperson. The party’s criticism centers on the perceived disconnect between official economic assessments and the realities experienced by ordinary citizens.
