This silly gift called poetry

This remarkable collection of poetry, “This Crazy Gift Called Poetry,” by Jack Micheline, compiled and translated by Fadil Bajraj (SabaiumBB, 2026), represents a substantial achievement. Jeff Weddle provided the original writings, while Flutura Oruqi expertly undertook the translation. Jack Micheline himself remained largely unknown during his lifetime.

No English professor ever seriously considered his place within established literary canons, and he held no position at any table dominated by influential literary figures. Despite this, following his passing from a heart attack close to his cherished San Francisco home at the age of seventy-eight, the wider artistic community took notice. Obituaries appeared in prominent newspapers, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and The San Francisco Chronicle, among others.

Micheline was undeniably an artist in every meaningful sense – uncompromising, visionary, humane, and, most importantly, a true creator. This collection offers a profound look at his unique perspective and the extraordinary gift of his poetry.
