MP Fatos Geci distances himself from Alban Krasniqi of VV: I wish no one a conviction in The Hague.

MP Fatos Geci Expresses Divergent Views on Hague Tribunal Cases

Kosovo Parliament Member Fatos Geci voiced a contrasting opinion regarding individuals prosecuted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) on Monday. During a parliamentary session, Geci compared former Kosovar Liberation Army (UÇK) leader Hashim Thaçi to historical figure Naim Frasheri, advocating for a lengthy prison sentence. Following Geci’s remarks, Speaker of the Parliament Albulena Haxhiu, also the leader of the Democratic Union (U.D.), issued a formal caution.

This prompted a response from Alban Krasniqi, husband of Albulena Haxhiu and a member of the Self-Determination Movement. Krasniqi stated his belief that no individuals should be sentenced in The Hague. He asserted that he views the UÇK’s involvement in the conflict as justified and desires the return and eventual freedom of all former UÇK commanders.

“I wish for no one to be sentenced in The Hague,” Krasniqi declared, emphasizing his perspective on the historical context of the war. The differing statements highlight a division within the Self-Determination Movement regarding the legacy of the UÇK and the ongoing legal proceedings.

  1. “It’s encouraging to hear a representative acknowledge the complexities of these legal proceedings and express a desire for justice, not punishment.”
