European Parliament Report Highlights Need for Mutual Respect in North Macedonia’s Path
Brussels – A report by European Parliament member Thomas Waitz underscores the importance of mutual respect between member states and candidate countries as a cornerstone of cooperation within the European Union, according to a report by Telegrafi Macedonia. Speaking to Euronews Bulgaria, Waitz addressed the question of North Macedonia’s potential European path. He emphasized that only through collective action, particularly during current geopolitical complexities, can the European Union safeguard its values and way of life.
“This applies to all governments, including the government of Macedonia,” Waitz stated. The report highlights concerns regarding a lack of progress and reforms within North Macedonia over the past year. Waitz specifically referenced the stalled negotiations and the broader reform agenda, including the country’s Growth Plan.
He stressed that the implementation of necessary reforms is crucial, not simply for initiating accession talks, but for establishing a sustainable trajectory. Failure to enact these changes, he indicated, remains a significant obstacle. The report emphasizes the ongoing need for sustained commitment from all parties involved to ensure North Macedonia’s continued progress toward European integration.
