Serbian military helicopters over Presheva, Rexhepi: Residents are afraid to go home.

Enkel Rexhepi, the chairman of the National Council of Albanians in Serbia, discussed the situation during a live broadcast on Euronews Albania. He detailed the ongoing military exercises being conducted by Serbian forces along the border with Kosovo. Rexhepi highlighted the significant concern among residents of Preševo, citing the presence of substantial military forces and equipment.

He explained that this situation is causing residents to feel insecure and contemplate relocating from the area. “I have contacted international actors to intervene and prevent further escalation,” Rexhepi stated. “The Preševo region is particularly sensitive to us, and we must avoid repeating past mistakes, as the current actions are excessively harsh.”

The chairman emphasized the impact on Albanian security, noting the potential for migration if residents continue to feel unsafe within their valley.

While the Serbian state is permitted to conduct military exercises, the manner of these operations is deeply troubling. He stressed the need for a resolution to safeguard the security and well-being of the Albanian population in the region.
