Kosovo Council of Justice Elects President After Failed Attempts
Kosovo’s Council of Justice was unable to elect a president following two rounds of voting today. The election process, which had previously failed three times, involved judges Besnik Bislimaj and Rrustem Thaçi as candidates for the position. In the first round, both candidates secured five votes.
A subsequent round also resulted in a tie, with the outcome ultimately determined by an invalid vote. Acting President Arjeta Sadiku announced a renewed 15-day competition to select a president. “According to the regulations and the result, since none of the candidates has received the necessary votes to be elected as president of the council, specifically judge Rrustem Thaçi has five votes and Besnik Bislimaj has five and one invalid, therefore, according to the regulations, the competition is re-launched, the administration is obliged to publish the competition, the deadline will be 15 days,” Sadiku stated.
The Council of Justice’s leadership is a crucial role within the Kosovan judicial system. The re-launched competition aims to establish a permanent president for the body. The process will now continue for fifteen days, with Bislimaj and Thaçi remaining as the candidates.
