Gerry McGovern, Jaguar Land Rover’s chief design officer, is leaving the company definitively. This departure, previously slated for the conclusion of March, has been reinforced by a year-end report indicating he was removed for cause. McGovern’s career began with the Austin Rover Group, followed by a period at Ford.
Subsequently, he dedicated over 21 years to Jaguar and Land Rover, playing a pivotal role in the creation of iconic models. He was instrumental in the design of the Land Rover Defender and the Range Rover Evoque. Furthermore, McGovern spearheaded the design team behind the Type 00 concept, a project that generated considerable discussion.
“It has been a great privilege to work at JLR during these two extraordinary decades,” McGovern commented. His tenure represents a significant chapter in the history of both jaguar and rover. The new executive director will now assume responsibility.
