Ukraine’s General Cherry Launches New Attack Drone – “Khmarynka”
General Cherry, a prominent defense technology firm in Ukraine, has announced the release of its initial attack drone, dubbed “Khmarynka.” The new drone is designed for medium-range operations and boasts a significantly increased payload capacity and operational range compared to standard FPV drones. According to the company, Khmarynka can carry eight times more payload and operates at twice the distance of typical FPV systems. However, the technology underlying the drone is not novel, with numerous similar designs already available within the Ukrainian market.
These existing low-cost drones, typically costing around $1,000, are characterized by their lightweight construction and capability to transport between 5 to 8 kg of ammunition over distances of up to 50 kilometers. The Khmarynka falls within a category of kamikaze drones intended for widespread deployment. The drones are designed to circumvent Russian air defenses and target key objectives, including armored vehicles, ammunition depots, and fortified structures.
General Cherry’s strategy appears to focus on leveraging established technology for mass production and strategic application in support of Ukraine’s defense efforts.
