An urgent call is being made to announce the competition for the new State Prosecutor.

Gazeta Express News reported on March 22, 2026, at 8:37, regarding an immediate call for a competition to fill the position of State Prosecutor. The Kosovo Justice Institute (IKD) has formally requested the Kosovo Prosecutors Council to swiftly announce a new competition for the appointment of the state prosecutor. IKD maintains that Kosovo has operated without a regularly mandated state prosecutor for a period of four years.

Senior investigator Gzim Shala, speaking to Ekonomia Online, highlighted that while reforms to the Kosovo Prosecutors Council, incorporating a sufficient quorum for operation, have been enacted, the selection process for the state prosecutor remains undeveloped. This situation began in November 2023 when the President of the Republic of Kosovo returned a decision to the Kosovo Prosecutors Council. The delay in establishing the competition for the state prosecutor represents a significant concern.

The IKD emphasizes the need for a transparent and timely process to ensure the proper functioning of the state’s legal system. The immediate need is to launch a competition for the state prosecutor role, addressing a critical gap in the legal framework.
