The German Embassy: Valuable time is being lost with the new elections

German Embassy Expresses Concern Over Prolonged Political Uncertainty in Kosovo

PRISTINA – The Embassy of Germany has voiced regret over the continued delay in establishing a stable government in Kosovo, following the dissolution of the Assembly on April 28th. The situation arose after the Kosovo Assembly failed to elect a new president for a five-year term, a process complicated by repeated attempts to secure a quorum. On March 5th, the Vetëvendosje Movement (VV) proposed Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Mulhaxha Kollçaku as presidential candidates, but the session lacked the required attendance, preventing a vote.

Subsequently, President Osmani dissolved the Assembly via decree. This action was challenged by VV, leading the Constitutional Court to grant the Assembly an additional 34 days to elect a president – a deadline that passed without resolution. Despite numerous meetings and diplomatic efforts, the impasse persists.

The German embassy has indicated that this prolonged period of uncertainty represents a valuable loss of time, as Kosovo continues to navigate a complex political landscape. The situation underscores the need for consensus-building among Kosovo’s political parties to address the requirement for new leadership and ensure effective governance.
