Macron: Europe will not participate in “unclear operations” in the Strait of Hormuz

Macron Emphasizes Europe’s Independent Security Approach

Paris – French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday that Europe is independently developing its own security solutions and will not engage with an “unclear framework” regarding potential operations to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He reiterated a preference for pursuing a negotiated solution to the waterway’s access issues. Speaking at the 8th Political Consultation of the European Political Community in Yerevan, Armenia, Macron highlighted Europe’s increasing focus on self-reliance in security matters.

“Europeans are building our security solutions,” he declared. This includes a significant increase in defense and security spending, alongside the development of common, collaborative strategies. Since 2022, European security policy has been shaped by initiatives such as the European Political Community and continued support for Ukraine through the Venice Coalition.

Macron emphasized that Europe is taking control of its own future, prioritizing these strategic investments. The President’s comments reflect a shift in European foreign policy, moving away from direct participation in international operations and towards a more autonomous approach to safeguarding its interests. He underscored the importance of diplomacy and a negotiated path forward, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
