McLaren Unveils New Track-Only Hypercar Derivative – the MCL-HY

McLaren has introduced a new hypercar derivative, the MCL-HY, designed exclusively for high-performance track use. Developed in parallel with its FIA WEC Hypercar race car, the MCL-HY, slated to compete from 2027, this version caters to a select clientele. The MCL-HY is a track-only vehicle, mirroring the approach of the MCL-HY GTR.

However, it distinguishes itself from its racing sibling through a significantly altered powertrain. According to Telegrafi, the vehicle features a 2.9-liter V6 engine paired with two turbochargers, generating approximately 720 horsepower. A key modification involves the removal of the hybrid component – the Motor Generator Unit (MGU) – which was necessary to meet the stringent regulations of the LMDh class.

This change has facilitated a reduction in overall vehicle weight. McLaren’s new offering is exclusively available to “VIP McLaren clients,” reflecting the company’s strategy for developing high-performance vehicles for dedicated track use. The focus remains firmly on delivering a powerful and lightweight experience for discerning drivers.
