Reagon AZGJ: Kostadinovski’s stance is biased and prejudiced; the Albanian language is official.

The Language Implementation Agency has addressed comments from Constitutional Court Chairman Darko Kostadinovski. During a session examining proposals concerning the “Safe City” system, Mr. Kostadinovski asserted that SMS notifications should exclusively be delivered in Macedonian, citing it as the nation’s sole official language.

AZGJ strongly disputes this position, labeling it biased and prejudiced against the Albanian language. They argue that the stance unfairly restricts communication. The agency believes this interpretation demonstrates a lack of consideration for linguistic diversity.

Regarding Chairman Kostadinovski’s viewpoint, the Language Implementation Agency of the Republic of North Macedonia (RSM) is prepared to offer a counter-argument. While acknowledging that Article 1 of the Law on the Use of Languages does indeed designate Macedonian and its Cyrillic alphabet as the official language, as stated by Kostadinovski, the agency highlights a crucial omission. Specifically, the Chairman failed to reference paragraph two of the same law.

This paragraph outlines the principles of multilingualism and the right to communicate in languages other than Macedonian, ensuring equitable access to information for all citizens. The agency maintains a commitment to upholding the legal framework’s broader intent, prioritizing inclusivity within the language landscape.
