Financial Times: How oligarchs close to Viktor Orbán are profiting billions from public tenders.

A recent investigation by the Financial Times has revealed a significant pattern of financial gain by a network of businessmen associated with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Since his assumption of office in 2010, this group has amassed billions of euros through public tenders. The report details that thirteen individuals, considered close advisors to the government, secured over 28 billion euros from state contracts between 2010 and 2025.

This represents a substantial escalation in earnings, markedly different from the preceding five-year period. Prior to this timeframe, these same actors averaged 608 million euros annually from public contracts. The current figures demonstrate a dramatic increase in their revenue streams.

These firms collectively accounted for roughly 14% of all public tender funds allocated in Hungary during the period under review. The investigation highlights a concentrated area of financial activity linked to the government’s procurement processes. The findings underscore the influence of this close circle within the Hungarian economy.
