Approximately eighty percent of doctors within the country have experienced physical or verbal abuse.

Over seventy percent of doctors within the country have reported instances of violence while at work. A survey conducted by the Medical Chamber last year revealed a concerning statistic, with only two formal complaints reaching the Ministry of Interior. These incidents predominantly occur in demanding environments such as emergency and rapid response departments.

Doctors have emphatically voiced their concerns, urging an immediate end to violence and demanding that institutions prioritize their safety during work hours. Kalina Grivçeva Stardelova highlighted the situation, stating, “We don’t treat well if we are afraid. Our current conditions in the country are not as they should be.”

She continued, emphasizing the dedication of doctors, “We are not in sufficient numbers in the country but we are here for patients, as many as we are, we are and we are here for patients, we do extraordinary work because we want to help.” Health Minister Azir Aliu responded to these concerns, outlining plans to bolster legal protections for doctors.

“We will continue to reinforce measures designed to safeguard the well-being of our country’s doctors,” Aliu affirmed. The situation underscores the urgent need for improved security and support for medical professionals.
