Ervin Salianji, a former Democratic Party member of Parliament, announced his intention to contest the upcoming party leadership election on May 23rd. This directly challenges Sali Berisha in the race for the party’s top position. During an appearance on the “Opinion” program, Salianji affirmed his candidacy.
He explained that, considering the present circumstances, the Democratic Party faces an insurmountable challenge against the Socialist Party. “I will certainly run, and I will be in the race on May 23rd,” he declared. Salianji detailed that the Democratic Party has held numerous meetings to address the anxieties of its members.
He noted a divergence of opinions within the party regarding its future. Importantly, he emphasized his lack of involvement with Sali Berisha or any other individual. Instead, Salianji focused on the core concerns of Democratic Party supporters – the need to transform the party into a winning entity.
He asserted that, as currently structured, the party is incapable of securing victory. “I have not had any concerns about Berisha or any conflict,” Salianji clarified. Furthermore, Salianji responded to a recent statement from Sali Berisha, the Democratic Party leader, adding another layer to the developing situation within the party.
