Measles Cases Rise in Kosovo: IKSHPK Confirms 14 Confirmed Cases

The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK) has reported a concerning increase in measles cases within the country. Between April 16th and May 12th, 2026, a total of 14 cases have been confirmed. According to municipal reports, the highest concentration of cases was observed in Ferizaj, with five confirmed instances.

Pristina reported three cases, followed by Kaçani with three and Lipjan, Fushë Kosovë, and Gjilan, each with one confirmed case. All individuals diagnosed with measles were unvaccinated against the disease and rubella and subsequently received hospital treatment. The IKSHPK emphasized the serious potential for complications associated with measles infection.

The Institute highlighted the highly contagious nature of the virus and reiterated the importance of vaccination, particularly for children. These confirmed cases underscore the ongoing need for preventative measures and public health awareness regarding the risks associated with measles and its potential complications. Further investigation is underway to determine transmission pathways and implement targeted interventions.
