JCB has returned with the Hydromax: can it achieve 650 kmh and set a speed record on land?

JCB Pursues Land Speed Record with Hydrogen-Powered Vehicle

JCB is undertaking a new ambitious project, aiming to set a record for speed on land. The endeavor centers around the JCB Hydromax, a vehicle designed to challenge existing land speed records. This initiative follows in the wake of Dieselmax, which achieved a record of 565 kmh (351 mph) in 2006 – a record that remains unbroken to date.

The project, as reported by Telegrafi, represents a significant advancement, utilizing a completely new engine powered by hydrogen. The goal is to surpass previous achievements in land speed. Andy Green OBE, a renowned figure in land speed record attempts, is spearheading the project.

Green is the only individual to have broken the sound barrier on land, piloting the Thrust SSC to a record speed of 1230 kmh (766 mph) in 1997. He previously oversaw the Bloodhound LSR project. The JCB Hydromax is being developed with the support of several engineering firms associated with the Gentlemen’s Club racing team.

Expertise in racing competitions is being leveraged throughout the development process. The project represents a focused effort to achieve unprecedented speed on land, utilizing innovative technology and the experience of a seasoned record-breaking driver.
