Petrovska: Low rating for Parliament reflects the failure of the Government’s promises

According to LSDM deputy Slavjanka Petrovska, the average citizen evaluation of the Parliament’s performance accurately reflects the current political reality. Citing a study conducted by the Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis,” Petrovska noted that public perception suggests the government operates in conjunction with the Parliament, rather than the Parliament maintaining a supervisory role over the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers. The research findings, she stated, represent the general sentiment of the electorate.

Petrovska suggested that when the government fails to deliver tangible results or fulfill its pre-election promises, the demeanor of deputies belonging to the ruling majority appears increasingly strained. She observed that during parliamentary sessions, rather than engaging in substantive answers to questions or constructive debate, some deputies resort to making accusatory statements. These statements, according to her, often include derogatory labels such as “traitors” or “criminals,” suggesting a breakdown in proper parliamentary discourse.

The core message conveyed by Petrovska is that the public sentiment, as measured by the study, indicates a gap between the government’s stated intentions and its observable actions. This perceived disconnect, she argued, is visible in the procedural conduct within the parliament. The data, she maintained, suggests that the public’s view of the institution’s efficacy and the accountability of its members is becoming increasingly critical.

Petrovska emphasized that the gathered evaluations effectively reflect the current mood regarding governmental oversight and legislative function.
