Currently: Municipalities still haven’t made the 2026 budget available.

The Mayor of Prizren, Shaqir Totaj, is demanding answers concerning the ongoing postponement of municipal budgets for 2026. He stresses that this delay is significantly affecting the functioning of municipalities across the region. “To my colleagues,” Totaj stated on social media, “despite the Government’s approval and the Presidency’s declaration of the 2026 budget, we are now in mid-March and municipalities still do not have access to it.”

He suspects the Ministry of Finance has intentionally withheld execution payments related to debt recovery from municipal budgets.

This anticipated sum is estimated to be around 100 million euros. “This Ministry’s action will undoubtedly disrupt municipal budget operations,” Totaj continued. The situation remains critical, with municipalities still awaiting the necessary funds.

The delay is causing considerable concern and operational challenges. Totaj has formally requested clarification and a swift resolution to this issue, highlighting the urgent need for the budget to be released. He emphasizes the importance of timely financial support for these municipalities.
