Greek police conducted a narcotics operation this morning in Igoumenitsa, near the border with Albania, resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal substances. This marks the second such drug seizure reported in the area within the past eight days. During the early morning operation, officers from the Narcotics Department of the Criminal Investigation and Pursuit Directorate in Igoumenitsa intercepted a rented private vehicle.
The vehicle was being driven by a 61-year-old Greek woman, who reportedly originated from Moschato in Athens. Upon inspecting the vehicle, authorities successfully seized a substantial cache of narcotics. The police recovered 90 packages containing a total of 96 kilograms and 74 grams of marijuana, alongside 5.21 grams of cocaine and a small amount of hashish.
In addition to the drugs, officers also confiscated 100 euros in cash and two mobile phones. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by Greek law enforcement to interdict drug trafficking routes operating near the Albanian border. The discovery of these materials underscores the consistent vigilance of the authorities in the region.
The recovered items are currently under investigation by relevant authorities.
