The Bulgarian Foundation “Macedonia” has canceled the border blockade with North Macedonia

The planned protest scheduled for Sunday, which involved the blockade of three border crossings situated between North Macedonia and Bulgaria, has been temporarily called off. This announcement was made by Viktor Stojanov, who represents the Bulgarian foundation “Macedonia.”

According to Stojanov, the decision to cancel the action followed consultations with several key governmental bodies. These included representatives from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Bulgarian ambassador stationed in Macedonia.

Stojanov noted that the foundation typically operates in coordination with established Bulgarian institutions. Based on these discussions, the consensus reached was that undertaking protest actions, such as a short-term border blockade, would currently be counterproductive. While the initiative aims to offer citizens a platform to voice their opinions regarding the relationship between the nations, the consultation process led to this reassessment.

The organizers acknowledged the importance of the public expressing its views on matters concerning Macedonia and its neighbors. The cancellation suggests a temporary de-escalation or strategic pause in the planned demonstration. The involvement of official diplomatic and governmental channels in advising the foundation indicates a preference for dialogue over direct disruptive action at this time.

The statement confirms that while the underlying goal of civic expression remains, the method of protest has been modified following input from Bulgarian authorities to ensure the action aligns with current diplomatic considerations.
