Afghanistan bans the use of smartphones for civil servants

The Taliban government has initiated a measure prohibiting the use of smartphones among public officials within Afghanistan. According to reports from Badakhshan province, an official confirmed that a verbal decree issued by the Islamic Emirate was disseminated to department heads. This directive stipulates that, effective immediately, no employee serving within Taliban services is permitted to utilize smartphones.

The official communication mandated that department directors are responsible for notifying personnel at all organizational levels regarding this prohibition, which is effective starting April 17th. The scope of this new regulation is comprehensive, applying equally to both political and military personnel. The ruling establishes strict guidelines regarding the use of personal electronic devices by state employees.

The decree clearly delineates that exceptions to this ban can only be granted by the Supreme Leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada. This centralized control suggests a policy aimed at regulating communication methods within government structures. The implementation of this ban affects the day-to-day operations of various government departments, requiring adherence to the new standards for communication technology.

Personnel across the spectrum of state services are now subject to these guidelines, underscoring the government’s directive regarding the appropriate use of smartphones within public institutions.
