Three HIV patients in infectious disease, one in critical condition

As of June 16, 2026, the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK) has confirmed that a total of 17 cases of HIV/AIDS have been reported at the Kosovo University Clinical Center. This figure represents a change when compared to previous years. The Institute noted that the count for the first half of 2025 was 13 cases, while the corresponding period in 2024 recorded 18 cases.

Regarding current patient management, the Infectious Clinic is actively treating several individuals. According to Murat Mehmeti, head of the Infectious Clinic department, there are currently three patients hospitalized. He specified that the status among these three individuals varies; one patient is currently in a more critical condition, while the remaining two are reported to be in better health.

Dr. Mehmeti also addressed the current epidemiological trend associated with the virus. Based on the observed trajectory of HIV/AIDS, the immunologist stated that projections suggest these cases could potentially double in the near future, emphasizing the ongoing need for public health monitoring and resource allocation.

The IKSHPK continues to track these statistics to guide public health policy and treatment protocols within the region.
