The Kosovo Police have issued a renewed warning to citizens regarding the circulation of fraudulent SMS messages. The police have identified another deceptive message that purports to originate from the Republic of Kosovo’s official institutions. This fraudulent communication falsely alleges that recipients have outstanding traffic fines and directs them to click on embedded links.
In a public appeal made via Facebook, the Kosovo Police urged citizens to exercise extreme caution and refrain from engaging with suspicious links. Authorities explicitly advised the public not to provide any bank or personal data in response to such messages. Furthermore, citizens should avoid opening any pages that request payments via SMS.
The police provided clear instructions for handling these types of communications. If an individual receives such a message, they are advised to delete it immediately. They should also report the message to the relevant authorities.
If any personal data has been shared, contacting the bank is recommended. Additionally, reports can be filed through the ‘Lajmëro Policinë’ application or by calling 192. The public is urged to remain vigilant against similar scams.
The authorities emphasize that citizens should not click on any links provided in unverified messages.
