Citroen will use the ELO concept to revive the MPV

Citroën chief, Xavier Chardon, has indicated that the French automaker, known for its practical and approachable MPVs, is actively investigating how to translate the features of the ELO concept into a viable production model. Speaking to TopGear, Chardon stated that the vehicle represents a potential blueprint for the future of the MPV segment. He described the resulting vehicle as what the company terms “MPV 2.0.”

According to reports, while the final production version will necessarily deviate from the original design due to various practical constraints, it will draw significant inspiration from the ELO concept.

Chardon noted that the vehicle’s current form is limited, but the underlying creative elements will be incorporated. The key design inspirations mentioned include the implementation of a rear-wheel-drive layout, a central steering column, and the integration of smaller side view mirrors. Furthermore, the striking aesthetic elements of the original concept—such as its orange finish, unique wheel design, and overall distinctive character—are sources of inspiration for the development process.

The company’s exploration aims to modernize the MPV category by retaining the playful spirit embodied in the concept while adapting it for real-world manufacturing limitations. This initiative suggests Citroën plans to redefine the segment, moving beyond existing norms by synthesizing the advanced vision presented by the ELO concept into a more accessible, yet innovative, production reality.
