Constitutional judges “increased” themselves with salary increases, salaries from 199,000 to 242,000 gross denars

The judges of the Constitutional Court have moved to increase their remuneration packages, a decision announced despite ongoing public criticism regarding the Court’s recent work. The adjustment to the salaries for both the President and the judges of the Constitutional Court will take effect starting October 1st. This salary revision follows the Court’s action to repeal specific sections of the Law on Salaries and Other Remunerations for Elected and Appointed Persons.

The core of the change involves revising the legal provisions that dictate the coefficients used in calculating the compensation for the highest judicial officials. Under the revised structure, the salary calculation for the President of the Constitutional Court will utilize a coefficient of 3.08. For the remaining judges, the established coefficient for calculating their compensation will be 2.85.

These changes directly affect the financial framework governing the high court. Preliminary estimates suggest that the reinstatement of these adjusted coefficients will translate into a minimum monthly income increase of 200 euros for the affected personnel. The modification underscores the Court’s authority to adjust its internal compensation structure through legislative repeal, thereby setting new financial benchmarks for the highest levels of the constitutional judiciary.
