“We do not forget Chameria,” a message is sent from Pristina on the 82nd anniversary of the Greek genocide.

An exhibition has opened to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of the historical events concerning the Albanian population of Chameria. The display features photographs intended to remember individuals who were forcibly removed from their homes and subsequently executed more than eight decades ago. The commemoration was organized by the “Chameria” association – Kosovo.

The effort brought together representatives from various local associations, former UCK soldiers, and civilian artists to create the memorial. Nexhmi Muçiqi, the head of the association, stated that the primary goal of the exhibition is to ensure the remembrance of this past, particularly among younger generations. He emphasized the ongoing necessity of historical memory, noting the continuous effort required to keep the memory alive.

According to Muçiqi, the observance serves to educate the new generation, preventing them from forgetting these historical occurrences related to the Greek involvement in the region. The event marks a significant cultural and historical acknowledgment of the impact of the events that transpired in Chameria. The exhibition functions as a tangible effort to preserve the narratives of the Albanian community affected by the historical period.

By hosting this photographic memorial, the organizers aim to maintain a continuous dialogue about the past and its enduring impact on the community today.
