Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced via a social media post that the minimum wage in Kosovo has been raised to 500 euros. Kurti highlighted that the minimum wage had not seen an increase for over a decade, noting that the last adjustment occurred in 2011. At that time, the rate was set at either 130 or 170 euros, depending on the worker’s age relative to 35.
The Prime Minister stated that the minimum wage has seen four increases during his current administration. He detailed the progression, mentioning increases from 130 to 170 euros, followed by subsequent raises to 250, 350, and 425 euros, culminating in the current rate of 500 euros. Kurti indicated that this substantial adjustment will benefit an estimated 150,000 workers employed in the private sector.
The announcement marks a significant revision of the established minimum wage structure within the country.
