Why were public transport tickets raised? Rama speaks

New pricing structures for public transport tickets have become effective in Pristina as of January 1st. The adjustments affect various fare types, including single-journey, daily, weekly, and monthly passes, alongside digital options for the Airport line, as well as annual and corporate transport credentials. The implementation of these revised public ticketing rates is framed by the Mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, as a key component of modernizing the city’s urban transport infrastructure.

According to Mayor Rama, the changes are intrinsically linked to the ongoing process of digitizing the payment system. Rama emphasized that the transition represents a move away from traditional cash transactions toward digital methods for purchasing public tickets. “We are actually pushing the processes for ticket digitalization,” Rama stated.

“The digitalization of the processes means not paying with cash, but buying tickets digitally.”

The updated pricing signals a broader effort to streamline and modernize how residents access public transportation services. These adjustments cover all facets of the local transit system, ensuring that all forms of tickets—whether physical or digital—reflect the updated operational costs and technological shift within the city’s transport network. The new structure aims to enhance efficiency and improve the overall user experience for the public.
