Toni Kroos claims: Germany does not have any world-class players

Following a recent loss to Paraguay, which resulted in Germany’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup tournament, former resident Toni Kroos has offered a critical assessment of the national squad. Kroos stated that he believes the current German team lacks the caliber of world-class players required to compete at the highest level. In response to ongoing criticism directed at the German side, Kroos emphasized the need for candid self-evaluation.

He asserted that the squad is currently deficient, stating, “We (Germany) do not have any world-class players; we must be honest about this situation.” He contrasted the present form with previous successful campaigns, noting, “When we had successful tours in the past, I always had the feeling that we could go higher.”

Kroos further questioned the team’s current capability, suggesting that overconfidence played a role in the recent match. He remarked that the team appeared to believe they were superior to Paraguay without sufficient grounding in current ability. Due to these public statements and the nature of the recent performance, there is now uncertainty surrounding whether Germany will finalize and call up its intended squad for future fixtures.

The assessment suggests a significant gap between past achievements and the current roster depth available to Germany.
