ESHS: Kosovo leads in births, eastern region with the lowest percentage in the country

Data from the State Statistical Office indicates significant disparities in birth rates across various geographical regions of North Macedonia. Analysis of recent statistics reveals that the majority of recorded births are concentrated in urban centers. Specifically, urban areas accounted for 60.2 percent of all reported births, while the Skopje region registered 41.6 percent of the total.

Conversely, the Eastern region exhibits the lowest rate, recording only 6.1 percent of the total births, highlighting considerable variation in demographic distribution across the country’s different region. Furthermore, the data points to a negative natural population increase trend, affecting both urban and rural sectors. In the urban areas, the figures show 9,535 births recorded against 12,902 deaths, resulting in a negative natural increase of -3,367 inhabitants.

A similar trend is observed in rural areas, where 6,315 births were recorded alongside 7,385 deaths. These figures illustrate that while urban centers account for the highest percentage of births, the overall demographic trend across both urban and rural regions is one of population decline. The unequal distribution of births across different regions suggests underlying socio-economic factors influencing reproductive patterns.

Understanding these regional differences in birth rates is crucial for regional planning and demographic forecasting efforts.
