A robbery has occurred at the Lalique facility in Wingen-sur-Moder, northern France, resulting in the theft of valuable items from the luxury glass producer’s associated museum. Perpetrators forcibly entered the premises, directing their attention specifically toward the dedicated jewelry room. According to initial reports, approximately twenty pieces of jewelry were stolen.
While the precise value is currently under assessment, authorities estimate the loss could approach several million euros, potentially reaching close to four million. Due to the nature of the incident, the museum has announced it will remain closed for several days while investigations continue. Investigators reported that the incident was initially alerted by an alarm.
However, it was a cleaner who first arrived at the scene after the security company completed its initial checks and subsequently contacted the police. Authorities are currently reviewing all available security camera footage to aid the investigation. The institution itself is a recognized center dedicated to the art of jewelry craftsmanship and the history of Art Deco glass production.
The theft of the collection represents a significant loss to the cultural and artisanal history preserved within the museum. Authorities are continuing their efforts to determine the full scope of the theft and identify those responsible for the break-in.
