The Ministry of Interior has reported positive preliminary results from the “Safe City” project, indicating a marked reduction in fatalities associated with road traffic. According to the Ministry’s data, there has been a significant decrease in the number of victims in traffic accidents during the recent reporting period. Specifically, the data for the period spanning June through September shows that the recorded number of fatalities dropped to 34 this year.
This figure represents a substantial 40 percent decrease when compared to the 55 fatalities recorded during the same period in the previous year. Beyond the reduction in severe incidents, the system has also documented extensive enforcement activity. Since the implementation of the monitoring system, authorities have identified over 130,000 communication violations.
Analysis of these infractions reveals that more than 95 percent of the recorded violations are related to excessive speeding. Ministry officials noted that this statistical trend suggests that while technological monitoring is effective, the primary contributing factor to road hazards remains driver behavior. The Ministry emphasized that the greatest risk on the roadways stems not from the enforcement mechanisms, but from lapses in driver conduct.
These figures underscore the ongoing focus on behavioral correction to further lower the number of severe outcomes in traffic incidents.
