The power of scandals, the protest of citizens

Since the commencement of the protest, the government’s machinery of propaganda has sought to delegitimize the movement. This effort has progressed from initial labeling to the dissemination of conspiracy theories, and most recently, circulating messages suggesting the protest will be interrupted or postponed until autumn. The discernible objective appears to be the creation of confusion, the demoralization of participants, and the redirection of public debate away from the underlying causes of the protest and toward the protest’s logistics.

However, this effort is symptomatic of a deeper issue: an attempt by a specific power structure to control the narrative surrounding the demonstration. This focus on narrative control indicates that the conflict has expanded beyond the purely political sphere and now encompasses the informational domain. This dynamic mirrors the historical patterns of governmental scandals.

For over a decade, the trajectory of history in Albania has not been shaped solely through traditional press coverage. Instead, the battle for legitimacy and public understanding is increasingly being fought within the information space.
