The National Audit Office has reported that the Health Insurance Fund Board has accumulated a significant backlog of applications awaiting review and final decisions since 2019. The national office issued four recommendations to the Fund, two of which the Board did not implement. As of the time of the audit, five years after the initial findings, there are 15 applications concerning medical treatment abroad that remain pending at the Health Insurance Fund.
This specific issue represents only one of four key findings detailed in the audit report concerning the institution. Furthermore, the National Audit Office report highlighted that numerous other reports have not been executed due to delays originating from the Board. The evidence presented by the institution indicates that several cases have remained open for extended periods even after receiving approval from the Board.
In 2019 alone, a total of seven items were noted as unexecuted. The findings underscore systemic delays within the Fund Board regarding the processing and implementation of approved claims and recommendations. The national oversight body’s audit serves to bring attention to the backlog, particularly concerning international medical treatments and the general execution of administrative directives.
The report emphasizes the need for the Board to address these accumulated pending items promptly.
