Poisoning case in Pristina – 70 people sought help at the Infectious Diseases Unit, 22 hospitalized

The Infectious Clinic at the Kosovo University Clinical Center (QKUK) reported an increase in patient presentations exhibiting symptoms consistent with suspected food poisoning beginning on April 10. According to notices issued by the specialized clinic, affected individuals reported symptoms such as fever, elevated temperature, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea, with the onset of complaints typically occurring several hours after consuming food. Between April 10 and April 13, 2026, the infectious clinic received medical assistance from approximately 70 individuals.

QKUK confirmed that 22 of these patients required hospitalization for advanced treatment. The hospital reported that all cases were formally notified to both the Health Inspectorate and the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo. In response to the outbreak of food poisoning identified in Pristina, the Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that it has initiated formal investigative actions.

The sustained activity at the infectious clinic during early April prompted public health monitoring. The consistent reporting of these gastrointestinal symptoms has prompted official oversight from relevant health authorities to trace potential sources and prevent further spread within the community.
