Hoti: Serbia is not yet free from Milošević’s genocidal ideology

The acting Minister of Labour, Family, and Liberation War Values, Andin Hoti, responded to comments made by the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government in the Government of Serbia, Snezhana Paunović. Paunović had stated that she would have pursued ethnic cleansing in Kosovo if she had been in the position held by Slobodan Milošević in 1998. In his rebuttal, Hoti asserted that any contemporary advocacy for ethnic cleansing constitutes a threat to Kosovo.

Furthermore, he argued that such rhetoric indicates that Serbia has not fully distanced itself from the ideology associated with Milošević. Hoti noted that his predecessor, Milošević, faced international legal scrutiny for actions taken in Kosovo. He contrasted this historical record with the current diplomatic framework surrounding Serbia’s departure from Kosovo, which he described as occurring through mutual agreement.

Hoti referenced the collective stance of the people of Kosovo, the Kosovo Liberation Army, and the broader international community. He emphasized that the current political trajectory suggests a significant shift from past policies. The statements highlighted a deep ideological disagreement regarding the historical treatment of Kosovo.

Hoti maintained that the current discourse surrounding Kosovo’s status is not reflective of a commitment to the principles upheld by the democratic world. His remarks serve to challenge the legitimacy of statements that minimize or rationalize past actions taken by the state of Serbia.
