The U.S. Central Command announced on Monday that the military will reinstate the sea blockade of vessels entering and leaving Iranian ports on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
According to the announcement, sailors operating in the waters of the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz are advised to monitor the Maritime Notice and contact U.S. naval forces on channel 16-0-0. Earlier on Monday, President Donald Trump stated that the blockade would be reimposed.
He asserted that the U.S. would act as a “guardian” of the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, President Trump announced that commercial carriers would be charged 20% of their cargo value.
This fee, according to his statement, is intended to reimburse the U.S. for “providing security and protection in this very unstable part of the world.”
The U.S. military’s action signals a renewed enforcement posture in the region.
The reinstatement of the blockade impacts maritime traffic through key international waterways. The directive emphasizes heightened awareness for all vessels navigating the specified areas, requiring communication with U.S. naval assets.
