Today marks 45 days of protest in Tirana; demonstrators say they will not withdraw until September.

The current wave of protests in Tirana marks the 45th day of sustained demonstrations, with organizers indicating that the movement will not conclude before September. Protesters initially gathered in Skënderbej Square and have since established a presence directly in front of the Prime Minister’s office. During a recent statement, activist Luçiana Kokaj addressed the ongoing civil action, asserting that the government leadership appears unaware of the depth of public sentiment.

She stated, “The only ones who do not see the protest are the prime minister and his servants.”

Furthermore, Kokaj highlighted parallel international efforts, noting that today, citizens gathered in Brussels to demonstrate the reality of the Albanian government to the Albanian public. She emphasized the broad support received during this international outreach, mentioning the presence of MEPs, the President of the European Parliament, and various ambassadors. According to Kokaj, the President of European Students participated in the Brussels demonstration rather than attending a government conference.

She reiterated her critique, suggesting that the government officials remain disconnected from the public’s concerns. The demonstrations continue to draw attention to the political climate, with activists maintaining that their presence is a sustained challenge to the current administration. The movement’s continued visibility in key public areas suggests an enduring commitment from the demonstrators, who are determined to keep the issue in the national spotlight.
