On World Consumer Day, significant worries have emerged concerning persistent price hikes across Kosovo. There’s a noticeable absence of effective market regulation, fueling widespread citizen complaints about the escalating cost of living. Many individuals are struggling to manage their daily expenses due to this instability.
Civil society groups and ordinary citizens alike express serious concerns about the fluctuating prices they’re experiencing. The situation is creating considerable hardship for consumers. Chairman Selatin Kaçaniku of the “Consumer” Association emphasized this issue to KosovaPress.
He highlighted the crucial link between consumer information and the government’s responsibilities. Kaçaniku asserted that adequate consumer awareness relies on institutions properly fulfilling their obligations. He strongly urged the Government to appoint a dedicated consumer protection minister.
“Our level of knowledge and understanding is directly tied to the government’s successful execution of its mandate,” Kaçaniku explained. “This includes providing information, education, training, and establishing the necessary conditions for consumer success. Addressing these concerns is paramount on this consumer day.”
