The introduction of state maturity assessments is generating considerable worry among school leaders this academic year. A key element of this concern involves the shifting of desks and chairs from classrooms to school hallways and physical education spaces. Specifically, at the “Zef Lush Marku” gymnasium in Skopje, 375 students are scheduled to undertake the state maturity exam.
Consequently, the school’s staff are responsible for transporting 375 desks and an equivalent number of chairs. The institution believes that reverting the examinations back to the classrooms represents the optimal and most successful approach. They argue that the situation constitutes a substantial injustice, a devaluation of the testing process.
The belief that relocating desks will create a more authentic assessment is misguided. The school leadership emphasizes the importance of maintaining a standard environment for the students taking the state. The focus remains on ensuring that the assessment accurately reflects the students’ knowledge and abilities, and that the logistical changes do not compromise the integrity of the state examination process for these young students.
