The Istog Communal Council has formally approved the report submitted by the designated Commission, which details the extent of the agricultural damage sustained following a recent hailstorm. Following the approval, Nazmi Blakaj issued a statement clarifying that while the local council and commission have completed their assessment, the subsequent and concrete compensation for the recorded damages must be provided by the Kosovo Government. In a statement shared via Facebook, Blakaj extended his gratitude to the Commission members and the entire communal body.
He acknowledged the effort invested by the assessment teams, noting their dedication and support provided to the affected farming community. “A special thank you to the Commission and all members of the Communal Assembly for their work, commitment, and support to the farmers,” Blakaj stated. However, the focus of his message quickly shifted to accountability.
He emphasized that the responsibility for rectifying the financial losses remains with the central government. Blakaj asserted that the findings of the Commission and the subsequent approval by the communal council must translate into tangible action. He cautioned against the report remaining merely a procedural document.
“Now the ball is in the Kosovo Government’s court for compensating these damages. If this request and this report do not remain just a letter written on ice, which is written…”
The council’s action marks a key procedural step, validating the scope of the damage assessment. Nevertheless, Blakaj’s declaration underscores the community’s expectation for the Kosovo Government to move beyond assessment and deliver the necessary financial remediation based on the findings presented by the Commission.
